Welcome to the 7th Step Society
Newfoundland & Labrador

7th Step NL is a volunteer-based, peer support group designed by and for people who are incarcerated, have been previously incarcerated or involved in the justice system, and/or who are seeking support in the community.

Our group promotes open communication and reflection, and positive, realistic thinking and decision making, while acknowledging diverse needs and experiences, and supporting one another.

Territory Acknowledgment

The 7th Step Society NL respectfully acknowledges the lands and waters in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador as the unceded traditional territories of diverse Indigenous groups, and recognizes the ancestral homelands of the Beothuk, Mi’kmaq, Innu, and Inuit of Labrador.

We are committed to supporting everyone in the philosophy and spirit of truth and reconciliation, and understanding and celebrating rich and vibrant Indigenous traditions.

ABOUT

What makes 7th Step unique is our commitment to a process of collective and group-led peer support.

We help our members reflect upon their thoughts, attitudes, and actions.

We help our members return to their families and to live and remain in their community.

We are a process, not a program.

Institutional Groups

7th Step holds an inside group at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary every Friday.  There are also groups operating in the central region of the province for individuals who may be living or staying there. These groups are a means of support and encouragement for members inside the correctional institution.

FUNDRAISING

7th Step NL has received support from several local organizations, departments, and community members who we offer our sincere thanks.  If you wish to contribute to our ongoing efforts, please contact us.

Community-Based Group

7th Step NL also has community-based/street group meetings on Wednesday nights from 6:00-7:30pm.

Please see more below and/or email us to confirm your attendance and receive location information.

Friends, family, acquaintances welcome and previous incarceration is not necessary.  We support anyone who has experienced and/or may be in a position in which they may experience incarceration or criminalization.

We provide support to individuals in the community. Members can include former prisoners, federal or provincial, as well as individuals seeking encouragement and guidance as they move forward with their lives.
